What we verify, what we store, who sees it, how to delete it

The confidentiality statement, the statutory screening disclosure, safe-meeting guidance and a named person to report to. Linked from the foot of every page.

Criminal-record screening disclosure

Claret Room conducts criminal background screening on every member before a first introduction is arranged. Screening is carried out by a licensed third-party consumer reporting agency and covers county, state and federal conviction records in the United States.

Screening is one check among several. It does not replace your own judgement, and it cannot tell you whether a person is honest, kind or right for you. Read the safe-meeting guidance below before any first meeting, and tell your matchmaker immediately if anything at all concerns you.

A member whose screening returns a conviction for a violent or sexual offence, or for fraud against a person, is not accepted into the roster. Members are re-screened at each renewal.

CLARET ROOM CONDUCTS CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENING ON EVERY ACCEPTED MEMBER. CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENING IS NOT FOOLPROOF. IT MAY GIVE MEMBERS A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY. IT IS NOT A PERFECT SAFETY NET. SCREENINGS ARE LIMITED TO PUBLICLY AVAILABLE CONVICTION RECORDS, ARE NOT CURRENT IN EVERY STATE, AND DO NOT COVER ARRESTS OR ANY CONVICTION RECORDED OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES.

What is searched

Government photo identification, county and federal criminal conviction records, national sex-offender registries, and verification of employment or business ownership.

How verification works

What is not searched

Arrests without conviction, sealed or expunged records, records held outside the United States, and any state whose records are not published or not current at the time of the search.

Confidentiality statement

How your file is protected

Written plainly, because a confidentiality policy nobody can read is not a confidentiality policy.

What is stored

Your intake notes, the brief, verification confirmations and the debrief record. Identification scans are destroyed within thirty days; only the confirmation flag is kept.

Who can see it

Your named matchmaker and the practice principal. Nobody else in the firm, no other member, no contractor and no advertising partner. Access is logged.

What is never published

Everything. There is no profile page, no directory and no search index. Your name and photograph appear nowhere on this site or anywhere we control.

How to delete it

Ask, in any form, and your file is deleted within thirty days with written confirmation. Data is never sold or shared, and you may opt out of all sharing at any time.
